Caring for Bamboo Flooring
Although bamboo flooring can be finished in different ways, the maintenance procedures apply to most all types of bamboo
flooring. One of the quickest ways to damage the finish on bamboo flooring is to walk on it while it is dusty or dirty. To prevent
permanent damage to the floor, it should be cleaned daily. The floor can be cleaned with a dust mop, vacuum, or brush. Using one of these methods
is the best way to keep the floor free of dust, dirt, and grit.
Near entrances and appliances are the places where the most harmful dirt is collected. These are the places where feet track
the most. Walk-off mats should be placed in these areas to keep dirt from being tracked to other areas of the bamboo flooring. Shake or vacuum
the mats and rugs frequently to maintain their effectiveness.
The bottoms of furniture can also damage the flooring by causing scratches if the furniture is moved. Floor protector pads can
be used to prevent damage to the floor. Place the pads on the bottoms of the furniture legs. Take care to keep the pads free of dust and dirt.
Since pads can wear out over time, they should be replaced periodically. Watch out for furniture that has metal or narrow casters over the wheels
as these can cause dents in the floor. Since high heels can also cause dents in the floor, make sure they are in good condition when walking on
the floor.
