The Antique Daybed Cover

A daybed cover is more than just something that is placed over a daybed to make it look nice. It is also something that keeps the daybed’s occupant warm at night. Actually, it is more than that as well. A daybed cover will also make a room look visually more appealing if it is a very uniquely designed cover. Quite a multifaceted work of linen, is it not? Actually, it is all that and more. There exists many a daybed cover that is also an antique.

When someone hears the term antique, a person will automatically assume that what is being referred to is the standard ‘stereotype’ that pigeonholes what an antique is. In other words, people will automatically create visual images in their head of lamps, vases, pianos, and any of a number of different types of antiques. They generally will not think of a cover as an antique.

This is, quite honestly, an oversight on most people’s part. The reason for this is that there are many antique daybeds out there, most of which are complete with their original daybed cover. If the daybed’s origins date back to 1850, the cover dates back to this year as well. That would make the cover as equally rare as the daybed itself. Perhaps it is even more rare!

The daybed may not always be a custom order. That is, it is possible that even an extremely old antique daybed could have been made on an assembly line. While it is possible that the daybed cover that accompanies such a bed may have been a mass produced item, it is also quite possible that the cover is also a custom made, handcrafted item. There are probably a great number of rare daybed covers in existence. One would be very lucky to locate such an item.
