Those of us who feel in tune with the environment and think that we should do everything in our power to protect it should certainly purchase solar lighting for the environmental benefits. However, even if you are not sure what to believe on the whole global warming issue, chances are that you too can benefit from certain aspects of solar lighting as well. When you install solar panels in your home to power your lights, you will find no greater feeling than if you head over to your electric meter to actually witness it spinning backwards while you generate your own power. If you are able to generate enough power with your panels, the electric company will actually send you a check for how much “they” owe you. Of course, it will certainly require a good deal of solar panels on your home if you want to make a ton of electricity.

Solar lighting can be found in two forms, and which ever one you choose is wholly dependant on what you need to illuminate. The least technical solar lighting solution includes outdoor lighting fixtures which harness the power of the sunlight during the day to power themselves during the night.  These include spotlights and mock streetlamps which you can position around the exterior of your home or nestle in your landscape.

Alternatively, if you want to enjoy the benefits of the backwards spinning electric meter, you can purchase solar panels which will use the energy they generate for solar lighting. The light fixtures do not have to be located outdoors like in the first example, meaning you can enjoy the benefits of solar lighting inside of your home just as well as out. Generally speaking, neither of these options are cheap, but in the long run you could certainly make your money back from the savings on your electric bills.
