The Nanny Security Camera: Is it a Blessing or a
Curse?
The latest craze is the nanny camera, a
camera which actually allows you to monitor your child from a
different room. The nanny security camera is basically one step up
from the baby breathing monitor, another way to keep tabs on your
children without actually having to be in the same room with
them.
There are differences of opinion on the nanny
security camera. Some see it as a good way for busy mothers to keep
track of their children when they have to leave the room; John and
Sally can continue to play while Mother goes on with her life.
Assuming that the mother would leave the room,
anyway, these proponents would say that the nanny camera adds
security and responsibiblity to a situation that would otherwise be
lacking both these traits. In that way, they argue, the
camera is a blessing.
Opponents of the nanny camera, however, say that
the camera may actually exasperbate the problem. Parents who might
not have left the room otherwise may feel that it's okay with the
nanny security camera there to 'babysit'. But having a nanny
security camera is not the same thing as being in the same room as
the child, they say, and the mother is more likely to become
distracted with the comfort of technological distance between her
and her child.
In the end, like the baby breathe monitor, the
nanny camera will probably become a staple in most advanced baby
households. But there will probably always be people who object to
its use. Perhaps only time will tell whether the nanny
security camera is a blessing or a curse.
