Is Used Shelving Safe?
Why is there such
a trepidation about purchasing used shelving?
Well, it is not so much that there is a specific trepidation that
is exclusive to used shelving so much as there is a trepidation
towards things that are used “in general.” Of course, it is not
accurate that no one will put any faith into used items.
There are used items that are sold everywhere.
Used cars are the most common. Play it Again Sports has provided a
full out retail store designed to cater to those looking to
purchase second hand sporting goods. Half.com has allowed the ‘used
bookstore’ to hit the information super hi-way. Ebay has made the
sale of used goods popular on the stock market and is probably the
only flea market auction to sell millions and millions of dollars
of items. (The genius of Ebay lies in the fact that it took the
flea market auction concept and allowed it to expand into the
Internet world)
So why would people be so put off to the idea of
using used shelving? In a nutshell, people are afraid the shelving
will fall apart and send whatever is on the shelving airborne. No
one wants to see anything break because of structural flaws in the
used shelving. That would not make them worth anything even if
there are a few dollars saved by the purchase of buying used
materials.
In a way, this is a silly, borderline paranoid
worry. Used shelving is perfectly safe provided it has been
properly maintained. If properly maintained, then it is good as
new. The best thing to do is to make a careful examination of the
used shelving and see if there are any problems or flaws with the
shelving. If things look good as new, then the used shelving should
be fine and there is no reason to worry.
