Can You Make the Swamp Cooler Repair?
What happens when
the day is hot and the swamp cooler air conditioning system has
been running since the early morning hours because shortly into the
day the temperature had already surpassed eighty degrees and then
it breaks down?
There are several things you can look for to see
if you can make the swamp cooler repair yourself or if you will
need to take it somewhere to be serviced. The first thing to check
is to make sure that everything is clean. Is the water pan clean?
If the answer is that its collected sludge you’ll need to empty and
clean it out. Are the soaker pads clean? If these are dirty they
will not be able to work and so must be cleaned out. If they are
starting to fall apart they must be replaced. Any one of these
would be an easy swamp cooler repair to make.
Another easy swamp cooler repair would be if the
swamp cooler were leaking. Most times this is the reservoir pan
that is has either cracked if it’s plastic or if its metal it may
have rusted through. Although it will take sometime to take apart
the swamp cooler if its no more than a faulty pan that is not a
serious swamp cooler repair. You can both clean it up and seal it
with silicone, if its plastic, or you can simply replace it.
It’s if the pump or motor are not working
properly that you should have concerns. These are more expensive to
repair, or replace, but with them not in working condition, you
really can’t do anything. Again, either of these problems can be
caused by rust, poor maintenance, lots of use, or just bad luck. If
you’ve cleaned the machine all up and it still won’t work then you
may have to take it into a service shop to be repaired. Unless of
course, you are good with your hands and can make this kind of
swamp cooler repair yourself. Being able to swap a motor or pump
will save you service fees and lots of time. In the heat of the
summer everyone wants their air conditioning systems, no matter the
type, fixed instantly, and so you may wait a week or more to get
yours back.
